Mega Match-A-Thon Total Success: 288 pets find a forever home in South Florida

The Mega Match-a-Thon, a 24-hour pet adoption event at Tropical Park, found new homes for 288 cats and dogs.
Hundreds of people lined up before 12 midnight Friday night to adopt when the puppy marathon kicked off the event. Throughout the night and into Saturday happy pet lovers came and adopted new furry friends.
The chalk board being used to keep score kept rising: 239, 247, 255 but then a strong storm unexpectedly struck in the late afternoon on Saturday, presenting a serious challenge. The rains flooded much of the event and even ruined some exhibitor’s booths, forcing them to pack up early.
Fortunately, despite the difficulties the event was very well attended and people kept coming even after the rain. The Humane Society of Greater Miami also opened their shelters on Sunday and continued with the same special price adoptions.
